Quick Take: Surly Overrated

A new IPA from Surly is here with everyone drinking large amounts of it. With a price point lower than Furious and a big juicy hop flavor it's hard not to go back to drinking more especially as the weather gets warmer.

Overrated is true to the West Coast IPA style in appearance with its light golden color. The smell gives off a decent but not powerful citrus character with a bit of pine. When you take a sip both of these flavors are enhanced. There's big hop character going on here with just a slight sweet bread character behind it. Not hugely bitter. The mouthfeel is moderate with a higher level of carbonation. Those expecting to get smacked in the face by hops might be slightly disappointed but overall this is a really big winner on hop flavor. I'd take this over any other West Coast IPA I've ever had with maybe only some stuff from Alpine that isn't distributed here being the exception. Another big win from Surly.
