We like Double IPAs. We also like trying Double IPAs that we haven't had yet. When we get offered to order a new, fresh Double IPA at a solid price point we bring it in and try it. Mendocino Talon Double IPA pours out a brilliant see through copper color into our trusty pint glasses. There is one finger of off-white head, that leaves some lacing. I get slight pine in the aroma with a hint of sweet caramel. The flavor is big bitter pine with a lingering sharp bite. Very crisp but with a lot of caramel malt character to help balance. Even with the big malt character bitter pine and slight resin dominate the flavor. The finish is dry and crisp with a low to medium low amount of body. Lively carbonation. Nice take on the style although I would love to see a few more aroma hops going on. |
